Neva Louise Bender was the step-sister of Mrs. Pat Nixon
Neva was born in Lead, Lawrence County, South Dakota on 18 September 1904. Her father was Matthew “Matt” Bender, Jr. Unfortunately, he died 3 months before her birth in an accident at his place of work. Her mother was Katherine Halberstadt. She married secondly to William Martin Ryan in 1909 in Nevada. Neva married Marcus “Mark” Augustus Renter in 1937 in Santa Ana, Orange County, California. She was a trained nurse and practiced nursing before her marriage. She lived in the Los Angeles area until her death in 1984 and was present at many Ryan and Nixon family gatherings. |
